  Media Center - September 2007

07 September 2007 – The Singapore Media Awards 2007 has announced the list of finalists who will compete in 18 different categories, including the prestigious Grand Prix Award for the best overall media campaign and the new Media Agency of the Year Award.

Now, in its third year, it has attracted a total of 184 entries, a 20% increase as compared to last year and the highest record since it started in 2005.

With three newly created campaign categories this year, the organisers added an extra jury panel, gathering a total of 42 judges. The diverse jury comprises senior representatives from clients, creative agencies and media owners.

Amongst the jury members representing clients are first-timers, Ajay Asrani from Diageo Asia Pacific, Arjun Gupta from Kraft Foods Asia Pacific, Brett D. Hogg from Buena Vista Columbia TriStar Films, Chang Seng Hock from Sony Singapore Marketing, David Henry from Samsung Asia, Leonardo O'Grady from Coca-Cola, Shirley Foenander from McDonald's, Susie Wong from IBM, Vivek Kumar from Shell and Winnie Pua from Singapore Tourism Board to name a few.

Commenting on the quality of the entries, Mr. Arjun Gupta, Group Vice President & President of Kraft Foods said: " It has been a great experience so far, and an opportunity to get exposed to many different types of media and a lot of innovative work that is taking place in the Singapore market. We went through about 3 categories and the work has been extremely innovative and very much based on strong consumer insights and a very good understanding of where the consumer is interacting with different forms of media."

Ms. Winnie Pua, Director, Brand Management Division of Singapore Tourism Board said, “It was very interesting. I am very glad to see lots of entries showing a lot of depth and understanding of the business problems of their clients.”

“The quality of work submitted this year, to me, was extremely high.  So the judges spent quite a bit of time to finally confirm the eventual winner,” added Mr. Chang Seng Hock, General Manager of Sony Singapore Marketing.

New sponsors this year include CNBC, Emphasis Media, EYE and SMRT Media. Returning as sponsors this year are ACP Magazines, AXN, Clear Channel, CNN, MediaCorp, MediaCorp Radio, Moove Media, Singapore Press Holdings, The Wall Street Journal, TIME and Yahoo!

"The Singapore Media Awards pay homage to the best and the brightest in Singapore who push the limits of media innovation and we are delighted and encouraged to have received the strong support from the industry in the organising of this event," said Gan Boon Guan, SMA 2007 Chairman and CEO of Starcom MediaVest Group.

Organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents, Singapore , the winners of SMA 2007 will be announced at an awards presentation on 21 September at The Ritz-Carlton Millennia Singapore.
