Singapore, 13 October - The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents or 4As in Singapore announced today that its First Vice-President, Mr. Eric Teng has resigned after 10 years of service to the trade body and will hand over all responsibilities before his term ends in March 2007. Teng who has now joined the philanthropy and charity sector full-time has been appointed the CEO of the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation.
Teng, who served the 4As in the last 10 years, had joined the industry 23 years ago. He had founded the Blue Tangerine Group in 1993 after working with international ad agencies. Amongst the many 4As' committees he has served, as Chairman of the Creative Standards' Committee, he has resurrected the popular Creative Circle Awards (CCA) or “Gong Show” in 1996 after a two-year break.
Teng's role in the advertising and marketing industry extended beyond Singapore when he was Deputy Chairman of the Asian Federation of Advertising (AFAA) in 2001-2003 and last year, he headed the main organizing committee for AdAsia 2005 Congress, which is a premier biennial advertising and marketing event in Asia, last held in Singapore in 1980.
Teng has also been active in public and community service contributing in various leadership capacities in the last 20 years. These included being a Board member of National Council of Social Service (NCSS) from 1998-2006, where he was also chairman of the committees promoting, developing and managing volunteers, as well as a Board director of the YMCA of Singapore since 1985 and its current President. In 2001 he was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in recognition for his community service.
Mr. Anthony Kang, President of the 4As commented, “It is sad to see Eric leave the 4As Exco after so many years of selfless commitment and dedication to the industry affairs. Whilst I hate to see him leave I am happy that he is taking up new challenges in a non-advertising environment. I have no doubts that Eric will make an immediate impact in his new work environment”.

The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Singapore, better known as the 4As, was founded in 1948 during the days of largely black and white media ads. Though the ads now may be in full, living colour, the purpose of the 4As remains the same. Its key objectives are to elevate the stature of the advertising and marketing communications industry, provide advertising professionals with a collective voice and to nurture talent and creativity. Today, advertising has been transformed with the applications of relevant technology which offer exciting new advertising media, among them the internet, mobile phones and personal digital assistants. Now, more so, the objectives of the association have remained relevant.
The 4As represents advertising and marketing communications practitioners, agencies and related businesses in Singapore. It works in close co-operation with other related trade associations, schools and government bodies. Over the years, it has introduced a series of industry awards to recognise outstanding talents in advertising, media and related fields to motivate those in the industry to achieve greater heights.
Several key events are held annually by the 4As. Prominent among them are the Singapore Creative Circle Awards or the Gong Show , the Students Creative Awards , popularly known as The Crowbar Awards, and the Singapore Media Awards.
