MediaCorp talks with the 4As on TV ratings data inconclusive

- MediaCorp to market tv ratings data directly to agencies;

- 4As remain united and transparent with future costing proposals

Singapore, 14 August 2006 - MediaCorp and the 4As (Association of Accredited Advertising Agents, Singapore) are unable to reach an agreement on the fees that agencies will pay for TV ratings data.

Numerous meetings were held over the past few months to discuss ways to resolve the issue.
The 4As, in consultation with their members, have agreed to a co-payment in their efforts to reach an amicable resolution. Over the last few months, MediaCorp and the 4As have made several proposals on the fees. At the end, both parties agree to disagree, as they were unable to bridge the disparity gap.

MediaCorp will now take this service to agencies directly, based on commercial arrangements.
“Since May 2006, MediaCorp has made the decision to provide TV ratings data to agencies directly with the consensus of Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS). This is a shift from the original business model that sees agencies buying these data direct from TNS. With this new approach, MediaCorp hopes to work even closer with the agencies in exploring opportunities and providing what’s best for clients”, says Mr Melvin Ang, Managing Director, Marketing & Airtime Sales MediaCorp TV.

"The 4As are happy to be collaborating directly with Media Corp. When MediaCorp took over the negotiations, the pace accelerated and together we were able to reduce the cost of the original proposal. However, the advertising and media landscape has evolved tremendously over the years. We have to seriously consider the cost of doing business and what we can realistically afford to pay for research data for one media“, says Ms Julie Tilley, Chairman of 4As Media Committee.

The 4A members remain united and continue to be transparent with any future costing proposals that come to the table.
